It was all over the news here last week: high end lingerie brand Marlies Dekkers won a court case against the, also Dutch, brand Sapph. Both companies have been fighting for years. According to Marlies Dekkers Sapph blatantly copies their designs. While Sapph claims that the bras with additional decorative straps have been around for ages and that Marlies Dekkers therefore cannot monopolize the use of these decorative straps.

First of all, the designs of both Marlies Dekkers and Sapph are not really my cup of tea. I personally find it a bit tacky to show part of your bra. They don't call it underwear for nothing. But maybe I am just old fashioned...

Well, the outcome in this case basically was that Sapph was infringing the copyright of four of Marlies Dekkers' bras and one pair of panties.

Sapph will have to compensate Marlies Dekkers for an amount of over € 50.000. As expected, Sapph has indicated that they have immediately filed an appeal against this decision.

If you ask me, the four designs do look a lot alike.
